History Matters: Tribute to the Kit Jones

In the months leading up to the release of my historical novel, The Last Laird of Sapelo, a group worked feverishly on restoring the Kit Jones as a tribute to Sapelo Island and Darien’s link to this once invaluable workboat. R. J. Reynolds, Jr. had the Kit Jones built on Sapelo Island, with timbers harvested from its forests.

The Kit Jones sits proudly on display in the center of historic Darien next to the old McIntosh Jail, now an art center and museum. To learn more about the Kit Jones and its journey back to Darien, read the article from Georgia Magazine’s Febrary 2024 issue below. Discover another great reason to put Darien and Sapelo Island on your bucket list of historic places to visit.
